We call them dumb animals, and so they are, for they cannot tell us how they feel, but they do not suffer less because they have no words.

Anna Sewell, Black Beauty, 1877

If people start to act in an uncharacteristic, unfriendly or anti-social manner, we usually try to understand why the change has taken place. What has happened in their lives to make them so different from the way we expect them to be? We try to listen to their troubles or offer a shoulder to cry on.

Animals too can suffer from a variety of emotional or personality problems, but being unable to express these feelings in the way that we can, their distress can show up in other ways. This can lead to uncharacteristic behaviour such as fear, aggression, destructiveness or hyperactivity.

Flower Essences have proved to be a great benefit to humans, offering a means of providing emotional balance. Animals too can benefit from a range of flower essences specially designed for their needs. These are hand prepared from the fresh flowers of plants and trees, using clear spring water to capture the essence of these fresh wild blooms.

Flower Essences are thought to be catalysts that gently initiate positive changes in the personality. They soothe and balance the emotions, uplift the spirit and improve an animal’s sense of well being. They can be used for any type of mammal from the smallest hamster through to the horse! There are no restrictions or side effects when using the essences.

The following case studies are just a few examples of how the range of five specially-created essences has helped animals suffering from emotional difficulties:

Case Study 1

Animal: Male cat

Problem: The cat was at an RSPCA re-homing centre. He was very timid and became more withdrawn on entering the cattery. He would not eat for days at a time and spent most of his time hiding under a duvet and being aggressive towards humans. This resulted in nobody wanting to give him a home.

Essence used: Separation
Separation Essence is designed to ease the pain of anxiety or pining caused by the loss of an animal or human friend. It is also useful for animals that are adjusting to a new home or kennel accommodation.

Result: Within a few days of being on Separation

Essence the cat came out from under his duvet and began coming up to his window looking for food and attention. Although he could still be a bit prickly at times, he soon found himself a home. He is now very settled and very much a man’s cat.

Case Study 2
Animal: Dachshund bitch

Problem: The dog was living in the town and had a great fear of traffic. She was also scared of thunder and fireworks. When she was exposed to any of these noises she became very stressed and as a result she was hyperactive most of the time.

Essence used: Emergency
Emergency Essence is designed for use before, during and after acute or critical events, e.g. travelling, thunderstorms, bonfire night, shows, vet visits, etc. It helps to balance the system and calm the animal.

Result: The dog has calmed right down and is no longer as scared of traffic and loud noises. Since taking Emergency Essence she enjoys life much more.

Case Study 3

Animal: Male horse

Problem: The horse was bought by its owner to compete at show jumping competitions and was showing great promise over jumps when at home. However, on arriving at a show he became worried and withdrawn. His usual ability at home was not evident and he would knock down poles and stop at jumps.

Essence used: Timid
Timid Essence helps to bring self-assurance to animals that are fearful, have sensitive tendencies or may be shy or spooked. It also helps animals who have had a bad experience in the past to overcome their fears and regain their self-confidence.

Result: Soon after starting to take Timid Essence the horse became much bolder. He now goes to shows with a much better attitude and has since been placed in many classes.

Case Study 4
Animal: Female rabbit

Problem: The rabbit was bought as a pet for a child; however, on maturing she became quite aggressive and would not let the child handle her. She would run round the hutch to avoid any contact and strike out with her front legs if cornered.

Essence used: Over Dominant
Over Dominant Essence is for animals with attitude! This blend helps with head strong, stubborn and jealous animals and may also help to change defensive tendencies and make the animal much more co-operative.

Result: Since taking Over Dominant
Essence the rabbit has become much friendlier and now can be handled by her young owner with ease.

Case Study 5

Animal: Mongrel dog

Problem: The dog had been rescued from the pound, but could not settle, following its new owners around all the time.

Essence used: Highly Strung
Highly Strung Essence is blended for overactive, edgy, frisky and unpredictable animals. It helps to encourage a calmer disposition and offers relaxation.

Result: After the first dose in the evening the dog went to its bed by itself and settled straight away. He is now generally a lot calmer!!
