Arnica - Surprising Results from a Surprising Herb

A little while ago I gave a lecture in Stoke-on-Trent and it was most encouraging to see that there were people there whom I hadn’t seen for a long time, but all following up the advice I had given them years before.

Whilst I was speaking I recalled that 12 years previously in that same hotel, during the question and answer session, someone in the audience had asked me if there was anything really outstanding for sports’ injuries. I replied that Arnica was one of the best things to use. The questioner then said that it would be beneficial if there was a remedy that gave very quick results and I told him that Arnica Ointment applied to the affected area, coupled with homoeopathic Arnica taken internally would be ideal.

After the lecture I approached the gentleman to discuss sports’ injuries further, as this is one of my favourite topics, having treated so many sports people in my life. I learned then that I was speaking to Sir Stanley Matthews, someone I was truly delighted to meet. My older brother Nicholas, an excellent footballer himself, greatly admired him, commenting that nobody could use their feet like Stanley Matthews. I told Sir Stanley that story and we became very good friends. I am only sorry that he never got the chance to use Arnica in its most up-to-date formulation, Arnica Gel, in his time as a footballer. It is such an outstanding remedy and one of which Alfred Vogel would have been very proud.

We have known Arnica over the ages as an excellent remedy. Today it is known as one of the best healing gels for sports’ injuries and other inflammatory conditions. It works quickly and effectively, as I know from personal experience. Not so long ago, in my usual hurry, I fell down aircraft steps. Both legs were very sore and bruised but luckily I had a tube of Arnica Gel at the clinic where I was consulting. I rubbed it into both legs for a couple of days and they quickly healed.

I have often said that Arnica montana has been of service to mankind in various forms for a very long time and one can be grateful that this excellent version of an age-old herbal remedy is available today.

My Life and Work with

Alfred Vogel

by Jan de Vries

Publication Date:

November 2005

My Life and Work with Alfred Vogel is the third volume of Jan de Vries’s memoirs covering his life and career as a renowned alternative health practitioner. This volume focuses on his long and fruitful working relationship with the revered Swiss naturopath Alfred Vogel, which prospered right up until Vogel’s death in 1996. Jan de Vries was the only person to whom Vogel taught his unique healing methods and philosophies, and as a result of their close professional links they also became great friends, sharing a mutual respect and trust over a period of 40 years.

In this revealing and informative memoir, de Vries details the methods employed by Vogel and the profound influence that the eminent herbalist and nutritionist had on him and his career. He reflects upon the controversial, often almost impossible, situations that he shared with Vogel as they travelled throughout the world to promote their methods and practices.
