Welcome to a Healthier Life
In Fifty Years Fighting, the second volume of his autobiography, Jan de Vries looks at the many struggles he has had over his 50 years helping others and offers some fascinating case histories.
"One patient asked me why people long ago believed in fasting. Fasting is a process of cleansing the system and giving the body a rest from its normal food intake and, if undertaken sensibly, is beneficial to the functioning of the body. A blood sample taken from this lady revealed that a lot of waste material was present in her blood. She said she wanted to start on a fasting programme immediately, but I advised her against this course of action. Although I am keen on fasting, I recommended that we started by cleansing her system. I advised her to follow a sensible, healthy diet for a month and I prescribed a strong antioxidant. After a month, she returned and said she felt so well that she didn’t really want to go ahead with the fast, but I advised her that then was the best time to do just that. I recommended that, if possible, she should aim to fast for a week by following a system I would devise for her, and then to come back and see me. She decided to do this for ten days, which would give her body a much-needed break. I understood exactly what she meant afterwards when she said, ‘Now I feel clean.’
Isn’t it a satisfying feeling when one cleans out a cupboard or a room and then, on inspection, is aware that it is a great deal tidier, a lot nicer and a much better environment? It is the same with the human body. It is a marvellous feeling when you are cleansed of everything that could possibly have damaged your system by healing the body’s abnormalities. The problem could possibly have been constipation or even a constant cough or wheeze. There are so many ways you can cleanse your system and I have written at length in my books on this subject. Over the years, I have dealt with many patients who have gone through the same treatment as that particular lady, resulting in their feeling really clean, healthy and able to cope with life’s daily tasks.”
