The Nature Doctor
Alfred Vogel was a great exponent of a natural, healthy diet, good fresh air, exercise and restful sleep. Throughout his long life he emphasised the need for this balanced approach to life, returning to these themes again and again in his writings, such as The Nature Doctor, as well as directly with his patients.
How many of us regularly curtail the brain’s wonderful source of energy and recharging by not getting enough rest and sleep? The body may be able to take one or two exceptions, but a continuous lack of sleep will undermine the health, lead to fatigue and will gradually diminish one’s efficiency and productivity. Let us therefore, first and foremost, make sure to enjoy a healthy amount of sleep, going to bed early. We should also make an effort to eat wholefoods for adequate nutrition, get enough exercise for refreshing relaxation during our free time, and avoid the poisons threatening us in so many ways.
Of what good is our marvellously equipped body if we disregard its working order and eat the wrong food, as well as follow an unnatural way of life, with insufficient exercise and deep breathing?
In today’s computer age, there are those who work very much on a mental level and thereby forget that they are not just made up of a thinking head but that they must also pay attention to the rest of their bodies and its muscles. You have to use your body to prevent the degeneration of muscles and also to prevent the entire circulatory system as well as many other physical functions suffering the consequences of imbalance. The change from mental to physical activity is necessary to help maintain good performance at both levels.
The more natural your way of life and your diet, the less time spent cooped up in small rooms, and the more you use your free time to breathe and move around in the fresh air and natural light, the less you will be susceptible to disease.
